What We Open. What We Don't. And Why.
ArmOS is not 100% open-source. Some project claims to be open yet have the most essential parts closed. We don't want to beat around the bush.
ArmOS is intentionally a partially open-source operating system. Open are the parts that benefit from community contribution, peer review and transparency. The sections that contribute to the project development, maintenance and long-term sustainability are proprietary.
The Goal: To create an operating system that is continually developed.
There are values in every decision in ArmOS.
Users shouldn't need to learn all over again to use a better operating system because it feels similar to what you already use.
ArmOS has the entire stack, from firmware to applications. No platform dependency. No cloud requirement. No vendor lock-in.
No telemetry. No usage tracking. No information is sent anywhere without your consent. Personal information remains on your device only.
The following features are enabled by default: AppArmor, Secure Boot, TPM2, and zero-trust networking. Security is enabled on ArmOS by default.
ArmOS has a post-quantum approach to all encryption. Your data is safeguarded from not only today's attacks, but attacks of the next decade.
ArmOS devices are connected directly with one another. They collaborate on resources, create local networks, and do not need to go through any cloud server.
ARM Brain is an on-site computer system. It works offline. Doesn't push your prompts, your files, or your activity to any external service.
Across 10+ languages, ArmOS ships a complete development environment, pre-installed, pre-configured and published through a single publishing pipeline.
A built-in token economy is included in ArmOS. ARM tokens are earned by contributing spare compute and storage.
ArmOS is part of, and extends, the open-source community. The component that provides funding for long-term development is proprietary.
Compatibility with existing applications will not be affected by any new feature in ArmOS. The Windows-to-ArmOS path should always be functional.
ArmOS is built on Wine, KVM and Waydroid.NET, and KDE Plasma because they're great. Engineering is about something that doesn't yet exist - not rebuilding something that's already solved.
